Chemistry

Starting in 7th grade students enter the fascinating world of chemistry, an introduction to the make-up of various materials, their structure and properties. This in turn leads to inquiries about the smallest of the small, about basic elements, the tiniest particles, atoms and their building blocks, and their reaction behavior, leading students to exciting questions about everyday life and science. How does a battery work? Where does iron come from, or how is aluminum made? What does it mean to say that something tastes sour? What chemical substances are in food, cleaning agents and medicines? How are plastics made? What powers cars?

Enlightened by the results of their own experiments in class, students gain new insights, draw conclusions and develop new analysis models. Many “normal” things and events become more interesting; everyday phenomena are observed, classified and linked to chemical knowledge. The world is perceived anew, from a chemical perspective.
